The Slovak author Katarina Kucbelova studied film dramaturgy, she founded a literary award for prose authors and writes poetry yet never takes part in poetry competitions. Her four collections of poetry (Duals, Sport, Little Big City, He Knows What He’ll Do), carved out of language under unusual angles, are remarkable for their austere lyricism and have attracted a number of favorable reviews; she has also been included in several international anthologies of poetry. Katarina will open the closing night of the festival with her texts assembled over long periods of time: it “doesn’t matter at all” if they’re poetry, she says, or whether the person who wrote them is actually her.
